Chers amis des enfants masaïs
L’année 2024 est déjà bien sur les rails, voici un nouveau résumé des informations concernant la vie de notre association au cours des derniers mois, et un point sur les projets en cours.
Parlons tout d’abord d’Ololomei Primary School, et des projets sur lesquels nous travaillons pour supporter encore davantage cette école :
Depuis la dernière lettre d’information, datée de fin aout 2023, l’effectif de l’école a encore augmenté, et ce sont maintenant un peu plus de 600 enfants qui fréquentent cette école.
Les salles de classes, y compris les deux nouvelles salles que l’association a financées en 2023, sont pour certaines déjà surchargées, accueillant plus de 60 élèves, et nous allons, dans un premier temps, relancer dans les toutes prochaines semaines une chaine de fabrication, dans le camp de Tembo by Jackson, de pupitres doubles pour les enfants.
Au sujet du financement de ces fameux pupitres, nous voulons aujourd’hui publiquement remercier Frédéric, Stéphanie et leur famille pour leur nouveau très généreux don de début janvier, qui va financer la fabrication de 23 nouveaux pupitres (45 € par pupitre).
Merci également, évidemment, à tous ceux qui ont décidé à l’occasion des fêtes de fin d’année de faire un don spontané, j’espère n’oublier personne, Simone, Jacqueline, Sabine, Marie, James, et tous les anonymes qui ont donné en utilisant l’outil SumUp, et bien sûr à tous les parrains qui chaque mois donnent un peu plus que les 15 € de school fees pour leurs protégés, Christine, Odile et Patrick, François et Julie, Fabien et Julie, Liliane et Robert.
La générosité et la solidarité avec la communauté masaï sont les deux moteurs de notre association. Cette première lettre d’information de 2024 veut mettre sous les projecteurs sur un membre extrêmement actif de notre association, que beaucoup ont déjà rencontrée sur le terrain, notre très chère amie Else.
Voici, avec son autorisation, le courrier qu’elle nous a envoyé hier :
« Dear Patrick and Jackson,
Many years I have enjoyed nature and wildlife in the Masai Mara.
During these years I also met many Masai families and their children.
MMSF has done a lot in a short space of time, but there is still a lot to do.
I am very happy to support 4 Masai children and to give them the possibility to go to school.
Every time I meet them I can see how they enjoy and learn.
Through my teaching at the Ololomei School during my stay in the Mara, I know there is still a lot they need.
Some of the classes have more than 60 children. And we want them to get a good education.
That’s why I decided to give to MMSF a donation of Eur 10’000.-
Maybe a new classroom, a new kitchen, school materials whatever is most needed.
I am very thankful for all these unforgettable years where I could enjoy a wonderful nature, a spectacular wildlife and the warm Masai hospitality.
It is a good feeling to give them a little bit back, for the future of the Masai children!

Ces 10 000 euros sont aujourd’hui « au chaud » sur le compte de Masai Mara Solidarity France, ils viennent en complément, inespéré, de l’excédent de trésorerie que nous avions déjà suite aux multiples dons reçus, plus ou moins importants, et nous disposons donc aujourd’hui d’une trésorerie, un peu plus de 20 500 €, qui va nous permettre de lancer dès cette année un nouveau projet ambitieux. Ce sera soit la construction d’une autre salle de classe, soit, plus probablement, la construction d’un grand réfectoire pour que les enfants puissent enfin prendre leurs repas à l’intérieur, et non plus dans la poussière ou la boue.
Comme pour les projets précédents, l’équipe de Masai Mara Solidarity Kenya va se rapprocher des enseignants et des parents pour faire une évaluation rigoureuse des besoins, et lancer des appels d’offre locaux pour trouver les prestataires les mieux disant.
Le point sur les parrainages :
Lors de notre dernière communication, l’association sponsorisait déjà 48 enfants. Nous en sommes aujourd’hui à 51 enfants sponsorisés, merci aux nouveaux parrains qui nous ont rejoint :

Dear friends of the Masai children
The year 2024 is already well under way, so here’s a new summary of information about the life of our association over the last few months, and an update on current projects.
First of all, let’s talk about Ololomei Primary School, and the projects we are working on to further support the school:
Since the last newsletter, dated end-August 2023, the school’s enrolment has increased again, and there are now just over 600 children attending the school.
Some of the classrooms, including the two new classrooms that the association financed in 2023, are already overcrowded, with more than 60 pupils, and over the next few weeks we will be relaunching a production line for double desks for the children in the Tembo by Jackson camp.
On the subject of financing these famous desks, we would like to publicly thank Frédéric, Stéphanie and their family for their very generous donation at the beginning of January, which will finance the manufacture of 23 new desks (€45 per desk).
Thank you also, of course, to all those who decided to make a spontaneous donation over the festive period, I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone, Simone, Jacqueline, Sabine, Marie, James, and all the anonymous people who donated using the SumUp tool, and of course to all the sponsors who each month give a little more than the €15 school fees for their protégés, Christine, Odile and Patrick, François and Julie, Fabien and Julie, Liliane and Robert.

These €10,000 are now « safe » in Masai Mara Solidarity France’s account, and are an unexpected addition to the cash surplus we already had following the many donations we received, both large and small, so we now have just over €20,500 in cash, which will enable us to launch an ambitious new project this year. This will be either the construction of another classroom or, more likely, the construction of a large refectory so that the children can finally eat their meals indoors, and no longer in the dust or mud.
As with previous projects, the Masai Mara Solidarity Kenya team will be working closely with teachers and parents to carry out a rigorous needs assessment, and will be issuing local invitations to tender to find the best suppliers.
